As a confessed Europhile, I am certainly interested in discussing anything that is practiced there over here. But I don't quite get the attraction.
Is it the fact that the American electorate vote in those who ultimately make management decisions in the banking system? Or is that the federal government is just seen as better equipped to manage the financial sector?
yeah i dunno. i don't have a strong opinion other than that i hate when possible solutions become taboo for political reasons.
but.. the sweden approach worked in sweden, and the opposite didn't work in japan. the us is obv different and it may not work here — but let's not call it communism.
i don't think anyone thinks the government would be the best at building a thriving business — but they're probably better at saving businesses that can't be allowed to fail in the interest of the larger economy (especially when the current private management has done such a dandy job).
